Naturally Thin

I am addicted to a few things in life... Diet Dr. Pepper... Mike & Ikes... cuddles from my dogs... and bad reality television.

One of my favorite shows to watch and mock is Real Housewives of New York... really all the housewives franchise are cheesy fun... but I'm currently enthralled with the Mean Girl drama of middle aged New York women.

One of them is Bethanny Frankel.. since the show started she's written a series of cook books including "Naturally Thin"... which promises to "unleash your skinny girl and free yourself from a lifetime of dieting."

Needless to say I was intrigued. So I hit up the library to check it out to see how I can be naturally thin.

When push comes to shove the book is basically about being realistic about food. Don't eat an entire pizza. It will make you fat, but if you need a couple bites then eat it. Don't deny yourself.

The book also really pushes something I've been trying to do which is eat more natural and organic.

I started being really aware of the chemicals I put into my body when I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. Very little is known about ITP, including where it comes from and how to treat it.

So I had to research more holistic ways to control it... including vitamin C therapy and going macrobiotic.

Macrobiotics is a diet that involves eating grains as a staple food supplemented with other foodstuffs such as vegetables and beans, and avoiding the use of highly processed or refined foods.

Basically I didn't get to eat fun stuff and I eventually fell off the wagon and never went back. My ITP is still not great, but not dangerous so I haven't had to worry about it.

So after a year off the macro diet and back to eating way too much processed foods I'm making a conscious decision to go organic.

I don't want to go back to the extreme of macrobiotic; but this is the perfect season to add more fresh fruits and veggies, fresh and organic meats.

We'll see how long I can go without Bueno.
