Vacation Wrap Up

So, I've been on vacation.

In town.  Hanging out. My car crash and sick Molly took up most of my freedom with my planned trips to Taos and Minneapolis.

So, I had a staycation.  It was pretty great.  Relaxing, enjoyable, I tried new things.  I did a lot of yoga, running and napping.

Here's a bit of round up.

Mems is addicted to this cake so we went for snacks one day. Turns out Ann was besties with my Pops' mom and used to babysit my pops!

Celebrated the birth of the Veronica to my Betty.

Bought some footie pajamas.

Chilled at Guthrie Green with Molly and Andrew McCarthy's book.  I highly recommend that book.

Went to Shalomfest and ate some delicious falafel.
Also ate this cookie that looks like a spider.
I also hung out with Mems, the dogs, the kid sis and my pals.

Now, it's back to work.  My early alarm.

I'm refreshed and ready to go.

Vacation Wrap.

So my trip got cut short.  Mems got sick so we left the area 2 days early.  That meant less chance to eat out, shop too much, or drink too much beer.  But I still had a ton of fun... and was constantly moving to stay healthy.

I already told you about walking around the lake.  Minneapolis is a super healthy city, every where you look there's someone running, biking or walking.  There's gorgeous weather and scenery to enjoy while getting fit.

We also parked and walked around to shop and explore pocket neighborhoods.  It was one of those places where I found this awesome thank you card.

Before the trip ended we did also make it up the coast to Duluth... and walked our asses off.  It's a really gorgeous city along Lake Superior (now my first and only great lake to see)... seriously look at this beauty.

Molly also loved to sit by the lake and enjoy the breeze.

And I bought this awesome shirt at a shop in Duluth.  Then we listened to Highway 61 Revisited while driving along Highway 61.

Even from just the few days I was there my legs are sore from walking so much, which is good, must have worked those muscles to have them sore.

Now I'm back and it's detox time to get rid of the salt I did eat and the many delicious Minnesota beers I trank.  (Summit is delightful.)

Huge thanks to my pal Carly for letting me come visit again.  I've been there so much now I feel like Minneapolis is like another home.

Vacation Work Out

Greetings from the Twin Cities dears.

I'm currently sitting in my pal Carly's house preparing to drive to Duluth for the day.  Where we will walk around the great lakes and I'll feel all natur-y and bullshit.  I think we all know I'm not a nature girl.

Yesterday we started off the day with a walk around Lake Calhoun, which was gorgeous and about 3 miles.
Lake Calhoun

Unfortunately I was not wearing the right shoes so I have a blister so I won't be running like I'd planned this trip.  But we're doing enough walking that it's not that bad.

Between the stairs, walks, treks through museums, etc. We've been walking pretty much non-stop.

I'm not going to lie, I have fallen off the diet a bit.  You can't visit a new city and not try some of the great local foods.  But I'm drinking nothing but water (and the occasional 5 point beer) to keep from getting puffy from salt.

How about you guys?  Do you stick to a diet on vacation or give yourself a break?

On The Road

If you're reading this post, it's because I'm somewhere on a highway to Kansas City, or if you've waited to read it I'm on the road to Minneapolis.  The point is I'm on a 10 hour road trip and I'm a snacker.

So I prepped for the trip with a trip to the grocery store for some healthy options.

String Cheese... sliced apples... rice cakes and bottled water.

I also stocked up on gum.  Anything to keep my jaw busy while driving.  I'll probably be singing aloud at the top of my lungs too.  Scaring the dogs and what not.

I was asking about healthy snack options on the Fat Ass Facebook and got some suggestions.

Beef Jerky... granola bars... what healthy foods do you take along on vacations? Or are you one of those lucky people without the snack gene?

If you are don't meet me in person or I may punch you.

Vacation, All I Ever Wanted...

I was walking down the hall a few minutes ago when Mems yelled at me to come into her room... then she told me she could finally tell I'd been losing weight.  My body is weird like that, I'll bust my ass at the gym and stop eating junk and it will take weeks for it to show up.  But it finally has and now I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow.

A week long road trip first to Kansas City to visit my Platonic Life Partner Amanda and former FOX co-hort Emily.  Then up to Minneapolis for my yearly trip to visit another former FOX cohort Carly.
Both Kansas City and Minneapolis have some truly awesome local restaurants.  I have a list of places in Minneapolis I crave when I'm not there.  So this trip will be a test of my will.

And you lovely dears get to go along for the ride.  A week (give or take) of blogs about staying on track without scrimping on fun while on vacay.

So cue up the GoGos.... I'm hitting the road.
